About IBSE
IBSE is an interdisciplinary group dedicated to pioneering innovative approaches and algorithms that integrate multi-dimensional data across scales, to understand, predict and manipulate complex biological systems. IBSE comprises faculty, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students from many departments across IIT Madras. IBSE is also an integral part of Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RBCDSAI).
The interdisciplinary research at IBSE spans four main domains – Machine Learning, Network Biology, Metabolic Modelling, and Systems Theory with active partnerships with following:
- Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI, Faridabad)
- ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT, Chennai)
- National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS, Bangalore)
- inStem Center for Chemical Biology and Therapeutics (inStem CCBT, Bangalore)
- National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG, Kolkata)
- Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai
- University of Sydney (through Innovations in Biomedical Engineering and Medicine Research Alliance)
- University of Heidelberg (through Big Data Cotutelle programme)
IBSE organises symposia, colloquia, and workshops to bring together leading global scientists in the fields of systems or computational biology or genomics/large data analysis. Last year, IBSE organised its first international symposium titled “From Genotype to Phenotype: Computational Approaches to Understand Biological Systems”. Over the last two years, IBSE Colloquia has been given by Victor de Lorenzo (Centro Nacional de Biotecnología, Spain), Anurag Agrawal (CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, India), Michael Knop (Zentrum für Molekulare Biologie der Universität Heidelberg Heidelberg, Germany), and John Tsang (Systems Genomics and Bioinformatics Unit, Laboratory of Immune System Biology).
